One of my favourite recent makeup trends has got to be the orange lip. It is a fairly new trend as in 2013 we did see the orange lip on the runway and red carpets a fair bit, but in 2014 the trend really reached it's peak. If there was ever the perfect time to rock an orange lip, it was Spring/Summer 2014.

The great thing about this trend is how flexible it is. Whatever your skin tone is, there is a shade for you! Do keep in mind, this trend really calls for a flawless base, as the red tones in the lipstick will accentuate redness in the skin. Personally, I like a flawless base with a dewy finish with orange lips, but if you tend to be on the oilier side, then of course, opt for a matte base.

I find that with pale skin, most shades work -  pale orange, sheer orange, bright orange, neon orange, red orange.
Bronzy medium skin tones look best paired with bright orange and red orange.
Darker skin tones, however, work best with coral orange and bright or muted red oranges.

If you're still a bit unsure of the whole orange lip trend, then I suggest easing into it with a sheer orange which is flattering on every skin tone or if you like wearing red lipstick then a red orange is the perfect way to dip your toe into the trend without completely going out of your comfort zone.

Here are some examples of lipsticks in every shade mentioned above.

Pale Orange: Lime Crime in Cosmopop, Lime Crime in My Beautiful Rocket
Sheer Orange: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti, Toshop Sheer Lip in Red Alert
True Orange: NARS Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Timanfaya, MAC Cosmetics in Neon Orange, MAC Cosmetics in Morange
Neon Orange: Maybelline New York Color Sensational Vivids lipstick in Electric Orange, Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Orange
Red Orange: MAC Cosmetics in Sweet Grenadine, MAC Cosmetics in Lady Danger

Do you think you'll try this trend out?
